I hope this blog introduces you to new songs, books and movies. If they aren't all already part of the popular culture, they should be. Or hopefully will be!
There will always be a new post of the day drawn from the new as well as old familiars that haven't been seen or heard in a while. The songs will always be personal favorites of mine so apologies in advance!
Great song by Amy MacDonald, a Scottish singer. She has three albums to date at the ripe old age of 26. All of the albums are are excellent and I would buy them all (And I did).

A cute song from Jordan Pruitt. I think going on The Voice after having two albums to her credit was a career mistake - even worse was losing...
In any case, both albums were filled with catchy pop songs and she's definitely talented. I'm not sure why that hasn't translated to longevity on the charts.
The good news is that there are a lot of reality talent shows out there now and I'm sure she could get on any of them if that's her thing.

Vedera was an American rock/pop band with heavy emphasis on the "was." With two albums and EP to their credit, they were well on their way to success. Stages (2009) which contains Loving Ghosts was an amazing album.
Unfortunately, the group disbanded in 2011, never to be heard from again. Or at least most of the group drowned in anonymity - Kristen May, the lead singer joined Flyleaf, replacing their lead singer in 2012.

I think almost everyone's heard No Myth from Michael Penn's first album, March (1989). I think most would be hard-pressed to name another song from any one of eight studio albums in his discography.
That's unfortunate since a lot of his music is quite good, just not very commercial with radio in mind. All That That Implies is originally from his third album, Resigned (1997) but can be found on his compilation album released in 2007 as well.

Nice song by Greg Laswell that includes an assist from Sara Bareilles. With five studio albums and several extended plays to his credit, he has a large collection of work from which to choose. All of it is serviceable but much of it sounds very similar - the lyrics may be different but unless you are paying close attention, it's difficult at times to tell one song from another as a casual listener. Still, there are some jewels on each album that are worth a listen.
Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to get much airplay though I've heard him on TV shows here and there.

English singer Katie Melua has some very interesting songs to her credit on her six studio albums. Spellbound is from her third album Pictures (2007). The album also contains Mary Pickford which is definitely worth a listen!

This is my favorite song from Paper Aeroplanes and was on their 2011 album, They released a new album this year, Little Letters. While Little Letters is a good album, it's not quite the brilliant effort that We Are Ghosts represented.

Barenaked Ladies is a Canadian rock group with loads of great music. They have thirteen studio albums over more than two decades and have avoided the dysfunctional breakups that plague so many other groups. I think the lyrics are smart, light and entertaining. But perhaps more impressive than anything else is the fact that they wrote and perform the theme song for the best show on television, The Big Bang Theory.
Any group with a song titled You Can Be My Yoko Ono has to be awesome - do you even need to hear the song to know that it's great?? In all seriousness, their latest album, Grinning Streak (2013), is just as good as any album they've released in the past. Boomerang is my favorite but there are many others that make this an album to buy!!

38 Special was formed all the way back in 1974 but their biggest hits happened in the early 80's. They had a string of hits like Hold On Loosely, Caught Up in You and my favorite, If I'd Been the One.
While they've had twelve albums from 1977 through 2004, I think I lost interest after Strength in Numbers (1988) - it just wasn't that good and I just never went back. But those early album were pretty amazing! It looks like they still tour a bit - maybe it's time to see them live!!

Paramore's fourth studio album was one I eagerly awaited, not knowing if the departure of two of the founding members would make the group irrelevant. Many groups fail once that initial chemistry fades.
Fortunately for Paramore's fans, this isn't a complete flame out. I wouldn't say that this is their best album but it certainly isn't a failure. However, I would not buy the entire album - based on the musical diversity on the album, I think it's next to impossible to like every song.
