The Fray - The Wind

Good song from The Fray, a group from Denver, Colorado.  The Wind is from their third studio album, Scars & Stories (2012).  The title might suggest the song is about excessive flatulence but I think it's about starting over again in uncharted waters and coming to terms with the fact that nothing is the same ever again.

Ingrid Michaelson - Fire

I like Ingrid Michaelson - she excels at deeply emotional songs.  New York-based, she seems to have a global audience with five studio albums to her credit.  Fire  is from her last album, Human Again (2012).  One can only wonder what she was in between transformations based on that title and the songs contained within it.

Eric Hutchinson - Back to Where I Was

Eric Hutchinson is an American artist who has had four albums over the last ten years.  Back to Where I Was is from his third album, Sounds Like This (2008).  Without a doubt, this is my favorite song of his!  Hope you like it as well.

Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams

I don't know much about Lord Huron except that it's a folk group based out of LA with a single album to its credit. Lonesome Dreams (2012) was an excellent debut album and definitely makes this a group to watch.  The lyrics are intelligent and descriptive - definitely not like most of the music out there.

Azealia Banks - 212 (feat. Lazy Jay)

This song makes me blush but I do like listening to it.  Word of warning - you don't want to listen to it with any children around (perhaps over thirty is best).  In any case, the song celebrates the 212 (the first and really only New York City area code).

Please see the video below for music and lyrics.

Gabrielle Aplin - Home

Gabrielle Aplin is an English singer with several EPs to her credit, all before she turned twenty years old.  Her first full length album English Rain was just released this month and contains my favorite Aplin song, Home.  It can also be found on her 2012 EP titled Home, but now you can get it on the full length album and not pay for it twice!  And you can hear it here now.

Kate Miller-Heidke -- Space They Cannot Touch

I cannot add enough superlatives to describe Australia's Kate Miller-Heidke and her voice.  The music is wonderful, the lyrics are engaging and her voice is unique - her classical training shows in every song.  With four studio albums over the last six years, she has definitely established a body of work that is consistent and thought-provoking.

Some songs like The Tiger Inside Will Eat the Child make you wonder about the meaning and others are so very clear and direct but filled with emotions.  However, every album is worth a listen, end to end.

This is one of her more simpler songs but it captures the emotions of someone who is completely in love but still very insecure about the future.

Please listen to the video below for music and lyrics.

Movie - How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008)

Saw this movie recently and liked it.  I will warn you that it is formulaic and will not surprise you.  However, Simon Pegg is eminently watchable and Jeff Bridges has some incredibly funny moments.  It won't make you a better person and it definitely will not teach you anything.  But if you have some time to kill, this helps pass the time.  Basic plot summary is as follows:
  1. Sidney Young (Simon Pegg) chases celebrity but has gained notoriety through his snarky articles at a small London paper.
  2. He is inexplicably hired away by Clayton Harding (Jeff Bridges) and Sidney heads to New York City.
  3. Sidney's social gaffes seem destined to send him packing, all the while little glimpses of sound morals and good character shine through.
  4. And the big question at the end is:  Does he gets the girl or, better yet, which girl?  Is it Kirsten Dunst or Megan Fox??
Simon Pegg has made several funny films, including Hot Fuzz and Run, Fat Boy, Run.  Both have incredibly funny moments and he is central to the movies' success (at least in my opinion and with a very generous definition of success).  On the other hand, Paul (2011) didn't make much sense to me. I guess they can't all be winners.  Big plus on the movie is the sound track.  With music from Robyn to Duffy to Motorhead to The Kinks, there is literally something for everyone.

I give the movie three stars out of five

More movie information can be found on IMDB and you can always buy the movie on Amazon!!!

Niki and the Dove - Mother Protect

Niki and the Dove are a Swedish electronic music duo.  Instinct (2012) is their first album and it is quite good.  I hope they get additional exposure internationally outside of Europe - they deserve it and so do lovers of good music everywhere!

Please see the video below for music and lyrics.
