Lisa Mitchell - Valium

Lisa Mitchell is an English-born Australian singer who got her break in Australian Idol by finishing sixth. She's had two studio albums and three extended plays as well.

Valium is from her first album, Wonder (2009).  It's under-stated but fits the mood and I can listen to it over and over again!

Gavin DeGraw - Follow Through

This is one of my favorite songs from Gavin DeGraw.  It's from his first album titled Chariot (2003).  He's had four albums in total, all of which are excellent.  I think he is an under-appreciated artist with a strong body of work from the last ten years.  I hope you agree!

Birdy - Without a Word

Amazing voice!!! Birdy, otherwise known as Jasmine van den Bogaerde is a sixteen year old from the UK.  Her self-titled debut album from 2011 consisted almost entirely of covers from other bands; however, this one is her own song.

Damien Rice - Volcano

Interesting song by Damien Rice. I always like when a person gives fair warning that he or she is damaged - hardly anyone ever listens though!!

Though not credited in the album, Lisa Hannigan sang the female vocals for the song and got her start as a member of Damien Rice's band.

Bon Iver - Skinny Love

I think Bon Iver's lyrics are some of the most interesting - it's easy to just listen to the music and not pay attention to the words that Justin Vernon is singing but you would be missing out on the fun of trying to figure out what he's saying. &nsp;Skinny Love is an interesting concept - the song makes me think of love as taffy that gets skinny and weak when it gets stretched too far.

I like this version of Alicia Keys' Girl on Fire best.  It doesn't hurt that it features Nicki Minaj!  Girl on Fire  is Alicia Keys' fifth studio album and has several really good songs on it.

Like this song and artist a lot.  Selah Sue released her first self-titled album in 2011.  Her real name is Sanne Putseys and hails from Belgium. I'm sure big things are coming from her in the future!!

Poco - Call It Love

Poco is a group that's been around in various forms since 1968 (that's a long time!!). I think this is my favorite song. It's from their Legacy (1989) album which reunited all of the original members more than 20 years.  They have over thirty albums, most of which are live recordings.    They're still actively touring and are supposedly working on a new studio album - I cannot wait!
